Tom Rickner
In 1987, while still a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Tom Rickner began his career in type design by editing bitmaps for a local corporation. The following year, with bachelors degree in hand, he started at Imagen Corporation, where he constructed and hinted outline fonts. By the end of the next year, Rickner supervised production of the first TrueType as lead typographer at Apple. After leaving Apple and working freelance for several years, he joined Monotype Typography in 1994, and worked there for 10 years, converting the Monotype Type 1 library to TrueType. In that time he also created several original typeface designs.
Rickner has also worked closely with Matthew Carter, hinting Carters Verdana and Georgia typeface families.
